Hi Guys, I connected to my database with MS SQL Management Studio and MS Access also and have enjoyed much quicker access to my questions settings by editing records in the questions table directly.  I have changed things like sort order, HelpText, SQLText and more. Now I have several questions about this practice.

    1. Is it a bad idea to edit this table outside of your user interface for any reason?

    2. I have noticed there are a few things missing from the questions table such as the DNNField that a field is attached to. Where will I find that column? I suspect I have two fields linking to the same DNNField and wanted to sort a table or query view to quickly find out.

    3. The Questions_vw table seems very related to the Questions table . What goes in that table and how might I use it or should I  avoid it directly?

Thanks alot for being there for all our questions. The support here is above and beyond expectations.

HI, there is a "DNNField" column in the dynamicforms_question table.

As for dynamicforms_question_vw, this is actually a view.

    Create View [dbo].[DynamicForms_Question_vw]
    AS
    Select top 1000 * from dbo.DynamicForms_Question Where InActive=0
    Order By SortORder

Ah yes, I see it now. And I now see the purpose for the suffix on the view name. What about the question of whether or not a person should be editing the data directly as I have been doing? I know I can blame myself if I enter or change data incorrectly, but will I always get in trouble because I am editing a table that must correctly be only managed by all the stored procedures in your program?

HI, if you know what you are doing, then yes you can edit the SQL tables directly. But you know that dynamic forms also has a feature built in (advanced feature / view form results) where here, you can edit the results directly for each form submittal which would be easier to handle.

But if you feel comfortable manipulating the data directly using SQL management studio and SQL statements, then feel free to do so. -- David

Ah no, I'm talking about the questions table. And editing the questions themselves, like sortorder, IsHidden and the rest?

Yes, you can do it. But don't modify the dynamicquestionid column. -- David
