    Here's the scenario I'd like:

    - The user inputs data into the form, there's one field "Status" that keeps track of the status of the record. It's a radio button/dropdown that has options "pending, paid, completed". The user cannot change this (either the field is disabled, or not viewable by the user); when the form is first filled out, the status is defaulted to "pending"

    - After the form is submitted, the admin can View form results, search by the Status etc

    - The admin can update the status of the record, by changing the Status field to either "paid" or "completed"

Here are the problems I've been running into:

    - First of all, when I edit the form as admin, the values don't update. I'm not sure if it's a setting issue. I have the "Only allow form submission once per user" unchecked

    - I don't want the admin redirected to the whole form interface when he clicks the "Edit Results" link, I just want him to be able to change that one field "Status".

    OR

    - The admin wouldn't need to be redirected when editing the field values; Instead, he'd be able to directly edit the field when viewing the rows of results (sort of like Quick Editing I guess)

    Is that possible?

    I'm using:
    Dynamic Forms Version: 3.40.1.0
    DotNetNuke Version: 5.6.2

    Thanks!

    Hello,

I would recommend visiting Demonstration 31. This goes over creating a flat table to store custom data. Then from this flat table it will be much more manageable to edit and insert information.

Using the default stored with Dynamic Forms is just a mess. So I would follow the Demo 31 and this should help you with ideas to get this to work.

    Demo 31 -- www.datasprings.com/formdemos

This is most definitely possible, it just has to be organized better. So the key at this point is to use a flat table to store your form information.

The second key is using Initial SQL Binding to pull in a value for a submission so you can alter the value of the status field.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

Thanks for the link to the tutorial. I'll play around with it.

I have a few questions though:

    - What value goes in DSParam1? I'm guessing the unique ID of the row, but how do I grab that when I need to edit?

    - The demo had both the Insert and Update SQL events as form completion events, would both get fired when the form submits?

    Thanks

    Hello,

DSParam1 would retrieve a value that is a unique value. So say your flat table has a primary key named ID. Then you would want to associate ID as DSParam1. Now that DSParam1 = the primary key of a single record, you can perform SQL Binding with your DSParam1 value, as well as using this value for your SQL Update Form Completion Event.

The variable that will toggle the Edit and Add mode is the Hidden Field named DBUpdate. By default this field will have False as the value. However the URL that is used when you Click Edit from the grid, will contain URLToYourDynamicForm?DBUpdate=True&DSParam1=[ID].

Please let me know if you have any questions.
